I’ve been hearing that the Dicetale Games booth made quite a splash at SPIEL ’22 last week with news of their upcoming rpg, Blood and Doom. In fact I have it on very good authority that it will be a very cool game with a lot of ENnie Award winners on board!

About Blood and Doom
Blood and Doom is a dark fantasy tabletop roleplaying game, a collaborative and immersive storytelling experience shared by a Game Master – called the ‘Doomsayer’ in Blood and Doom – and a group of players. You may have seen similar games being played in hit shows like Stranger Things, The Big Bang Theory, or even the live-play roleplaying show Critical Role.

In Blood and Doom, players take on the role of adventurers in a doomed world where the influence of malevolent cults is slowly corrupting the land and its people. Doomsayers act as the player characters’ senses, describing events and presenting clues, while players interact both with each other and the characters inhabiting the fictive world of the game, and of course fight with monsters!

A unique dice system and ruleset is used to resolve conflicts, allowing for a tremendous amount of suspense to be added to the stories fleshed out by the entire playing troupe, with each player’s adventurer possessing unique abilities that add to the strengths of the group as a whole.

The World Of Athyr
Thousands of years ago, beings from an ancient civilization briefly lived on Athyr, fleeing from the extra-dimensional entities they had accidentally unleashed into our reality. Their devices and technology have become things of myth, but the snippets of knowledge they left gave rise to obscene cults, each of them tied to one of those entities that are destroying all life in the universe.

Over the last few centuries, the cults have risen in power and gained influence. Their rituals are becoming increasingly more dangerous and corrupt the seven regions of Athyr, from the arid deserts of Ethennia to the barren lands of the Sundered Wastes, the northern empire of Roshan, the mysterious jungles of Ishta, and the rivalling feudal kingdoms of Evandyr.

In every place where the cults are rising, lands are changing, transforming into twisted versions of what they formerly looked like. Bizarre, never-seen-before weather phenomena and diseases are plaguing the lands, seas and skies. Animals are degenerating into perverted abominations. Monsters from other realities are finding their way through the breaches in space-time. Seers prophesize doom, but no one knows what exactly is fated to happen.

Times are dire, options seem to be running out, and even the gods don’t seem inclined to answer their followers’ calls for help. From damp underground dungeons to the royal courts, rife with intrigue; from ancient tombs hidden in jungle-covered pyramids to the open seas; from prosperous towns with gold-plated roofs to poor fisherman villages; and from monster-infested mountain ranges to the deepest of oceans, heroes are needed, for there is much adventure to be had in Athyr, and even more treasure to be gained, but danger lurks around every corner and only the rare few can be trusted completely.
