Ep 142: 5D Pop Culture Podcast – LL COOL J is a Leeds United fan.

It was back in the deep dark days of October 2020 when we were delighted to collaborate with a German film company to help publicise the crowdfunding campaign for their sci-fi short film, Guardian. If you are so inclined you can see the article RIGHT HERE.

So, the great news is that they not only met their desired Indiegogo target, but in fact well and truly exceeded it! Now it would be wrong of me to claim that not long after he came on board to collaborate with promotion that the target was met, so let’s just say that hopefully we did a little to push things along.  The next bit of good news is that the completion of the VFX post-production work has been completed and the film is ready to be soon shown to the world……exciting, eh?!

Well you can guess how thrilled we we were to be invited by the team this week to help promote the real ease of the first trailer for Guardian……..and wow, it’s a doozy!

So this week’s episode of the 5D Podcast is brought to you by Guardian, the soon to be released Sci-fi short film from Germany.

Synopsis

When the artificial intelligence in control of a military space station decides to launch an unprovoked, all- out nuclear strike on an enemy nation, it is up to the AI’s creator and a maintenance technician to stop it from annihilating half the globe.

Guardian is not just an action-packed film about a military AI gone haywire, it’s also an emotional story about the maternal relationship between E.L.I. and his creator, Diane Colton, who considers him a surrogate for her own dead son, and uses that bond to help E.L.I. break out of his flawed programming.

Guardian is short film that will set a new high-water mark for what is possible in its format. The finished short film will be released and screened at various festivals this year (2021).

The aim of the crowdfunding campaign had been to finance the quite frankly ambitious plans to make a sci-fi production that would rival any mainstream feature in terms of it’s visual scope.  We’ll, if the trailer is anything to go by they may well have come pretty close to achieving that aim, because it looks incredible! Apparently the film boats over 350 VFX shots for 30 minutes of runtime which, proportionally, is on par with a fully fi- nanced sci-fi feature or high-end series. In addition, the film’s small but dedicated international VFX team has done a fabulous  amazing job in terms of set designs and 3D interiors, as well as 3D set extensions. It looks sumptuous.

I simply can’t wait for you to see the trailer once it officially launches this coming Tuesday 9th March…… I’ll put the link up here at soon as I’m allowed to.

PODCAST REVIEWS

In the main section of the show there is an abundance of love for the finale of WandaVision as well as a return to talking about the not quite as incredible cinematic spectacle of 2020’s Greenland film starring Gerard Butler.
