A review from 5D Music & Theatre writer Maria Robertson.

Everyone knows the soundtrack for this musical, no one can have missed the marvellous songs of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.  I however must admit to not knowing the story of how these boys from Jersey became the musical legends they are.

You certainly get your money’s worth as this is a long show, 70 minutes and then 60 minutes and its heavily laden with all the hits – 34 of them!  Well known hits such as Walk Like A Man, My Eyes Adored You and Bye Bye Baby are all included and often the story behind the song too so they come to have even more depth and meaning to your own life than they may have had before.

Directed by Des McAnuff this is a fantastic production that cannot help but brighten up your day, literally at one blinding moment!  The casting is a work of genius with Ryan Heenan perfectly depicting Frankie Valli’s very distinctive vocals.  Dalton Wood was great as Tommy DeVito, the man who brought the group together – and nearly broke it apart with his shenanigans.  He and Blair Gibson, as Bob Gaudio the main songwriter for the group, do most of the story narration between the songs and these are wonderfully wound in.

Drums are played by Tom Hutchison and are on stage throughout, occasionally just at the back of the set but sometimes moving forward to feature more strongly.  This was a visual indication of the beat that kept going for this group of lads that struggled to hit the big time, and struggled to keep it going, but the beat played on.  All these years later who can help but smile when they hear their hits?
