In the adventure, “Written in Blood,” characters visit Godsbreath, home to a tightknit community that draws its inspiration from Black communities in the Southern US. Godsbreath’s gods brought them to this region of dangerous waters and once-abundant farmland many generations ago, and they have built a thriving community that celebrates its history by retelling it in an annual festival.
But that all changes when t̶h̶e̶ ̶F̶i̶r̶e̶ ̶N̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ familiar faces attack. Soon, characters are off on a journey to find out what’s happened and find themselves smack-dab in the middle of a Southern gothic horror adventure. What can I say? I love to make things creepy.

In my adventure, “The Fiend of Hollow Mine,” players investigate the origin and potential cure for a supernatural ailment that causes deadly cold in its victims. The trail leads characters from an abandoned mine to the industrial city of San Citlán during the region’s most important festival, the Night of the Remembered. Inspired by the real-world’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), this celebration involves the people of San Citlán tapping into the immanent magic of the city to commune with their deceased ancestors and loved ones by honoring them. The adventure introduces a new monster—the titular “fiend”—called a tlacatecolo.
