Hitlist are an indie band hailing from Aberdeen, I recently experienced them playing live supporting Skylights as reviewed here.  Although their journey only began 8 months ago they have already supported The Snuts and Connor Fyfe as well.  They’ve also had a sold out headline show at The Cellar in Aberdeen and have just started branching out playing gigs in Edinburgh and Glasgow.  Yesterday they played a set at the Fan Zone in Beach Ballroom ahead of the Aberdeen Football Club game against Livingston, obviously brought the team good luck as they won 1-0!  The band consists of 4 members: Callum Jones on vocals, lyrics and rhythm guitar; Calum Chalmers on lead guitar; Ollie Serle on drums; and Scott Hardie on bass guitar.

The single Soul Survivor is their debut release which they have released by themselves, and its already had various radio plays.  Jim Gallatly included them in his unsigned bands show this afternoon, and he has a talent for spotting talent!

“Life keeps throwing curveballs at my head” is definitely a lyric that we can all identify with and Callum’s vocals are something I want more of!  What a brilliant voice he has, and the band play together so well for such young, relatively inexperienced guys.

Sometimes my friends ask where I hear about new music and it often comes from Twitter or making sure I’m at gigs earlier enough to enjoy the support band.  You never know when today’s unknowns will become tomorrow’s stars.  I regret missing Travis supporting Oasis back in the day!  So happy I saw Lewis Capaldi at Country 2 Country (and then the Tunnels in Aberdeen with only a few other folk).

Hitlist may be new on the scene and this may be their first single but they are definitely worth a listen, be in there from the start rather than just getting interested when they are selling out the arenas, keep it real in the wee independent venues.  New unsigned music can survive and I hope to see a lot more of these lads!
