Aberdeen based Ten Feet Tall Theatre’s latest production The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play will tour Aberdeen communities next week (25th-29th May) before their final performance at the Big Sky Studio in the Music Hall. They are delighted to continue their Pay What You Feel initiative to further their goal of making art accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation. The initiative, first introduced by the company in 2019 has proved popular with encouraging people to try-out theatre, and now in times of rising inflation and living costs, it is needed more than ever to offer people quality entertainment at a price everyone can afford.

*

The Pay What You Feel scheme requires audiences booking their ticket free of charge online, they attend the show, and when leaving if they can, they pay what they feel.

Professional Debuts

This show will also be the professional debut for two members of their 4 strong cast.

Both born and bred Aberdonian, Tonia Strachan, who trained at Mountview in London and Ciaran Drysder, trained at NESCOL, have been showing their talents in rehearsals along with actors Scott Armstrong and Hamish Somers, under the guidance of experienced actor and director Mark Wood.

*

Tonia and Ciaran are very talented performers who have been in training, waiting for this opportunity for years. We are thrilled to give them their stage debuts and look forward to them sharing their fantastic talent with our audiences as part of this captivating and fun production.

About the Show:

Set in a radio studio and performed as a live radio broadcast, an ensemble of four actors bring to life the characters and sounds of this classic tale of murder, love and espionage.

*

The studio’s Play of the Day is the fast-paced spy adventure, later made famous by master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. Twists and turns are guaranteed as man-on-the-run Richard Hannay travels the length and breadth of Britain in search of the truth behind… The 39 Steps.

*

This fun production will see multiple memorable characters created and the story of John Buchan’s great novel told in under an hour as we step inside the broadcasting studio and the making of a live drama during the golden age of radio.

*

The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play is supported by Creative Funding from Aberdeen City Council. Creative Scotland, University of Aberdeen, NEAT and Aberdeen Performing Arts.

About Ten Feet Tall Theatre

Ten Feet Tall is an Aberdeen Theatre Company that are dedicated to creating unique experiences and making community tours accessible for all.

*

Quote by Producer, Cameron Mowat

We want Ten Feet Tall to be for everyone and aim to continue to offer initiatives like “Pay What You Feel” in the region so we can engage people with Theatre, especially those who have never encountered drama or storytelling before, and get people connecting and being creative.
With living costs rising, it is understandably a concerning time as to what people can be afford. Moreover, during these tougher times what’s needed more than ever is a chance to have a break and enjoy a night of entertainment. So we don’t want any barriers for people accessing a good night out.

*

The 39 Steps is a classic story and this comedic interpretation, delivered as a radio play, sends up the Film Noir genre. A cast of four actors play all the characters and do (almost all…) the sound effects. We hope the show brings a smile to our audiences faces.
As part of this production, our engagement team have begun running workshops with residents in each community to get people connecting through creativity and storytelling. To quote another well known classic film, we see our engagement in these communities as.. “..the beginning of a beautiful friendship”.
