The 5D Diary – Talking with Neil Johnson about his career (& how he killed Christopher Lee and Davie Jones)

Neil Johnson

Those familiar with my ramblings here on the 5D website and the 5D YouTube channel will be fully aware of my love for Neil’s recent Sci-fi feature, the outstanding Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter (2017).

If you wish you can read my musings on the director and his film RIGHT HERE. If that wasn’t enough, you can also read RIGHT HERE the recent excellent news that a sequel of sorts to Rogue Warrior, Evolution War, is in the works to become a TV series. Now Neil isn’t  the kind of man to leave it at just one measly project at a time, so over the past few weeks the man has been travelling through Europe collecting footage for his upcoming projects The Time War as well as the aforementioned Evolution War……So last weekend while he was back in his homeland of the UK somehow we managed to get him to visit 5D HQ for some coffee & Sci-fi chat. If that wasn’t enough, I managed to hold on to his coattails for a couple of days as he travelled around my local area here in the North East of Scotland to film footage for inclusion in his (many) upcoming projects. I think it is safe to say (namely because he said so himself) that he was well and truly gobsmacked by this part of the world.

5D Podcast Special: A Conversation with film director Neil Johnson.

In this special edition of the 5D Podcast Stuart talks to Neil Johnson. Neil has made over 500 videos & perhaps best known by his long association with Metal bands Manowar & Rhapsody of Fire.

Neil’s Scifi movies have gained ever increasing acclaim, particularly the recent Rogue Warrior: Robot Fighter.

The conversation, recorded in the palatial splendour of my living room was a real joy as we chewed the fat about his movie making career, subjects including his early films, the success of Rogue Warrior, sequels involving all sorts of TV spin-off probabilities as well as the continuing filming of his Hitler time-travelling epic The Time War. Not only that but there was time for us to re-imagine the recent Han Solo Star Wars spin-off and generally put the entire world to right before Neil confessed that he feels he may have actually killed horror icon Christopher Lee and more recently, Monkee and 60’s icon Davie Jones – but you’ll have to listen to the podcast to hear just how he managed that!

In addition to 5D Podcast special my usual co-host Zack and I managed to fit in our usual show last weekend – In the latest episode briefly we talked about the release of Venom before moving on to the main event – namely the return of The Walking Dead!

Amongst the Zombie-related banter was chat about our predictions for season 9 (C’mon Andy, it’s still not too late to change your mind and stay!!!!). The two of us also had a go at a couple of Walking Dead quizzes to test our, ahem, expert knowledge!

Well also be talking about the hiring of James Gunn to write and direct the next instalment of DC’s Suicide Squad as well as a bunch of other tasty goodies – so don’t miss out, you can subscribe on any of the above outlets and we would love to hear your comments and thoughts.
