Welcome to the latest ’5D Pop Culture Website Pick Of The Week Award’, the opportunity to share something in the world of Pop Culture (usually, but not exclusively RPG-related). This week’s choice falls well and truly within of the RPG universe and will shortly be on my own ’to buy’ list on the DriveThruRPG link below.

*

And while the ’5D Pop Culture Website Pick Of The Week Award’ may not be; a) The most prestigious award in the TTRPG community, or b) A snappy, concise award title – well, it will be something we take rather seriously at 5DHQ as we fastidiously wade through the plethora of weekly releases.

And while there may be no review, or even more importantly, no prize, there is the knowledge that the winner has our undying love and adoration…..though not in a creepy way, obviously.

The Voralans (RuneQuest)

This book is for anyone who would like to feature the black elves of Glorantha in their RuneQuest game, and who wants more detail on this somewhat “alien” race.

*

The black elves, or voralans, are fungal humanoids, walking, talking, magical mushrooms. They are distantly related to the other races of Darkness (invertebrates, and trolls). Their relationship to the plant elves, the Aldryami, is explored in this book. Unlike almost any other Gloranthan race, they have a lifelong telepathic link with one another, a mental communion that makes them see and deal with the world very differently.

*

The contents include an introduction and overview (6 pages); the culture, biology, society, psychology, technology and occupations of black elves, including character generation (16 pages); mythology (8 pages); the cult of Mee Vorala (13 pages); what the shaman says (4 pages); a voralanbestiary (10 pages); fungal diseases (3 pages); fungi and fungal products (5 pages); and appendices (12 pages).

*

The book is illustrated throughout in full colour with specially commissioned art and some public domain imagery.

NOTE: Material in this book deals with mature themes. GMs are advised to adjust their presentation of this subject matter in accordance with their own and their group’s comfort levels.
